The Masonicare Quality of Life Walk
Thank you to all who participated and supported the 2010 Masonicare Quality of Life Walk. The Quality of Life Walk will return in 2012!
The Masonicare Quality of Life Walk fundraiser event helps The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut provide for the greatest needs of residents and patients at Masonicare Heath Center, Masonicare at Newtown and Masonicare Home Health & Hospice when no other funding resources are available. Donors to the Quality of Life Funds can feel proud knowing that their gifts will directly impact Masonicare's residents and patients. Some examples of Quality of Life Fund purchases include: reading magnifiers, telemonitors, patient education workbooks and the patient transportation program at Masonicare Health Center. These are only a few of the important purchases made through the Quality of Life Funds.
Of the more than 450 registered walkers, 378 took part in the third ever Masonicare Quality of Life Walk, held on Saturday, May 15 at Great River Park in East Hartford. The 2011 walk raised a total of $50,004.69, including $31,650 from corporate sponsorships, $11,475 from walker registrations, and $6,879.69 from outright donations and affiliate fundraisers.
The net proceeds of $43,806.94 will be allocated to the three Quality of Life Funds as follows:
· $21,479.17 for Masonicare Health Center
· $11,827.18 for Masonicare at Newtown
· $10,500.59 for Masonicare Home Health & Hospice
“We greatly appreciate the support of Masonicare’s ongoing efforts to provide the highest level of care to our residents and patients,” said Jennifer A. King, Executive Director of The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut. “The generosity of our walkers, donors, and corporate sponsors will have a meaningful impact on the lives of the people we serve.”
Organizers were also thankful to have over 100 volunteers on hand to assist Masonic Charity Foundation staff with event logistics. Many of these volunteers were members of Masonic youth organizations Connecticut DeMolay and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. They assisted with set-up and clean up and helped to cheer on walkers along the walk route.
Pedro Garcia, reigning 2009 Masonicare Idol, performed two songs as Walkers enjoyed breakfast and over 500 bagged lunches provided in-kind by Morrison Senior Dining. (Arrangements were made for a food bank in Hartford to be the beneficiaries of any left over lunches)
Thank you to all of you who participated in making the 3rd year of this Walk fundraiser a success! Whether you were a Captain, a Walker, an Outright Donor, or simply an advocate, we greatly appreciate your support to Masonicare's ongoing efforts to provide the highest level of care to our residents and patients.
“My wife Nancy and I had a wonderful time at the Quality of Life Walk and extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this event possible,” said Bro. Stephen B. McPherson, President and CEO of Masonicare. “It was gratifying to see how many employees and members of the Masonic family came out in support of the good work we do at Masonicare.”
