Connecticut VNA Collaborates with The Marvin in Norwalk to Benefit Elderly Residents - 12/2/2008

Norwalk, CT, December 2, 2008.... Masonicare's Connecticut VNA (soon to be renamed Masonicare Home Health and Hospice) is pleased to announce its Norwalk office has partnered with The Marvin in Norwalk and is currently providing healthcare services to residents of its congregate housing apartments.  Congregate housing is appropriate for many seniors and older adults who may need occasional help, but not the 24-hour care provided in a nursing home.

The Marvin, which recently celebrated its 11th Anniversary, is managed by the Board of Directors and staff of Under One Roof, Inc.TM ®. The Marvin has become a national model for successfully providing affordable, congregate housing with services for seniors, a nationally accredited childcare program, and a unique intergenerational program that encourages interaction between the senior residents and the children in child care, which benefits both age groups.

Since 2001, The Marvin has offered affordable assisted living services to enhance its residents' ability to maintain their health and independence.  Connecticut VNA has been contracted to provide that care as The Marvin's licensed Assisted Living Services Agency (ALSA) as of July 2008.

Mary Cosgrove, RN, Regional Director of Patient Services for Connecticut VNA, explains the relationship.  "As The Marvin's ALSA, our Norwalk office provides dependable, well-trained resident nursing aides to assist residents with activities of daily living as well as a registered nurse to provide nursing services and medication management as needed.  A nurse is also on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   After a hospitalization, a resident of The Marvin can opt to receive follow up home care, if needed, from Connecticut VNA."

According to Mary R. Windt, Executive Director of The Marvin, the partnership with Connecticut VNA has been everything they had hoped it would be.  "The feedback we've received from our residents has been extremely positive.  They are thrilled with the responsiveness and attention they're receiving, and our employees are very pleased as well.  We look forward to a long and productive partnership with Connecticut VNA that will benefit all residents of The Marvin."

Connecticut VNA, an affiliate of Wallingford-based Masonicare, is the largest home health and hospice provider in the state with several offices throughout Connecticut.  For additional information on The Marvin, contact the office at 203-854-4660.  To learn more about Connecticut VNA, call 1-888-482-8862 or visit the web site at http://www.connecticutvna.org/.
